McFarlane, on Lost, Miracleman and Gaiman

July 19th, 2006

Now Playing magazine has a two-part Q&A with Todd McFarlane, with the first installment centering largely on McFarlane Toys‘ license for Lost action figures. But the second part travels a little further afield, delving into, well, more action figures, the Spawn animated series, and everyone’s favorite topic … the status of Miracleman:

Todd McFarlane

Now Playing: Miracleman. You own the rights to Miracleman?

Todd McFarlane: Yeah.

NP: I haven’t been following the Spawn comic lately, so maybe you have done something with Miracleman there. What’s the status of the character?

TM: We’ve done a couple of small things; nothing overly aggressive. But again, Neil [Gaiman] and I are still trying to settle our differences and we’ll see where that all comes out. Who knows? We might some day get along and surprise everybody and Miracleman will sort of be fully grown with the creative people that [fans] are looking for. Other than that, eventually I’ll do something on a regular basis with him.

McFarlane further addresses his conflict with Gaiman over the property, saying, “Who knows? We’ll maybe be two fighting boys that turn into men someday. And actually do something a little mature.”

What’s the word I’m looking for?

    Delusional.

    Ah, yes. That’s it.

  2. Tony B. Says:

Does anyone else think that headshot of McFarlane looks a little creepy? It screams, “Buy my actions figures you little moneypots! Bwahahahaha!”

  3. dave g Says:

Todd owns Miracleman, huh? Interesting. I’m fairly certain Neil’s lawyers might have something to say about that.

    What an ass.

  4. James Van Hise Says:

I wish Todd would be interviewed by people who know when he’s lying. The document he was forced to produce in court which was the Eclipse contract to publish Miracleman stipulated that Eclipse lost all rights if the company stopped publishing or they filed for bankruptcy, which they did.

“Does anyone else think that headshot of McFarlane looks a little creepy?”

Have you seen one that doesn’t?

  6. RobB Says:

“…he’s [Todd] also distancing himself from the reality-based community…”

I suppose Todd forgot about this and this.
