Aquaman takes a dive, but Green Arrow steps up

It looks as if there’s no future for Aquaman on The CW, not even as a midseason replacement. Apparently, it’s just too expensive.

Adding credence to that report is news via KryptonSite that Justin Hartley, who played A.C./Aquaman in the pilot, has been cast as Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) for a lengthy story arc in the next season of Smallville.

That word comes from next week’s issue of TV Guide, which features an interview with Smallville executive producer Alfred Gough, who also co-created the jettisoned Aquaman spin-off.

Oliver Queen “will start to form the nascent Justice League,” Gough is quoted as saying. “He’s trying to find like-minded people with special powers and put a more formal structure in place.”

The character will appear in at least seven episodes.

Last week it was revealed that Aaron Ashmore, twin brother of Shawn “Iceman” Ashmore, has been cast as Smallville‘s Jimmy Olsen.
