Well, this is, I don’t know, unexpected? Odd? Something?
SFGate’s Culture Blog discovers that The PowerPuff Girls, which ended its run in the U.S. two years ago, has made the leap to Japanese television — with a vastly different look.
The new series, called Demashitaa! PowerPuff Girls Z, debuted on July 1, and features Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as weapons-wielding teen-agers. Wait, that’s not entirely true: From what I can gather from the show’s character page, they’re now “Hyper Blossom,” “Rolling Bubbles” and “Powered Buttercup.”
You can see a promo for the series, with English subtitles, at YouTube. The search also turns up all kinds of clips from the show, including transformation scenes.
