Lost in the commotion over the $132 million opening-weekend haul for Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest was the shattering of an imporant record.
Not the high-water mark set by Spider-Man in 2002 — though Pirates did pass that, by more than $17 million. No, I’m talking about the $116.8 million record established last month by the fictional Aquaman movie, from HBO’s Entourage.
The cable network even placed an ad in Variety trumpeting the imaginary box-office performance of the movied, directed in the TV show by James Cameron.
Oh, well. Three weeks is a good ride, right?
