Everyone’s concentrating on the ripping asunder that Marvel’s current Civil War “event” is doing, but there’s another, gentler, side to the tale. A side that brings people together.
“So I just read Civil War: Frontline #2, and for the first time, I feel for those Hal Jordan fans after he became Parallax. So just because JoeQ doesn’t like Speedball means that he should be written out of character, dragged through the mud, and destroyed. Thanks.”
“Pretty much, yeah. Just terrible.”
“I’d laugh my ass off if a H.E.A.T.-like group rises out of this Speedball mess.”
See? It’s not all death and destruction and tragedy. There’s understanding and humor, too.

Balwin’s Avenging… Litigation…
It should be B.A.L.L.S.; I just can’t think of what it should stand for. It’s kind of a shame the character has become such a joke, not because he’s so great or anything but because it was Ditko’s last comic for Marvel. (I wonder what were the details of this comeback?)
There was certainly the potential for something in the original series, it reads like Ditko’s Spider-Man stories. Maybe reading like a 60′s comic in the late 80′s was a reason for a lack of appeal, i just remember it as an old-fashioned shameless superhero book, with just a touch of that Ditko paranoia.

What? How was Speedball out of character? He barely got a word in edgewise. He was genuinely sorry for what happened but believed (and correctly) that he wasn’t guilty. This is nothing like the Hal Jordan thing.

You want out of character? Go check out Cassandra Cain in Robin #150-151…

This is a ridiculous argument. Hal Jordan was a major character in the DC universe, and Speedball is a C-Level Marvel hero at best. Yeah, he has his fans, me included, but this Civil War thing is going to be the best thing that happened to Speedball. He’ll probably be able to carry his own title when all is said and done. I look forward to it.
