Going toe-to-toe in a fictional clash of the titans

The opening of Superman Returns has feature writers dipping into their idea files for comics stories.

Today, Sarah Linn of the San Luis Obispo, Calif., Tribune whips out that staple of many a comic-book message board: Who would win in a fight?

She delves into the classic match-ups, like The Hulk versus The Thing, Superman versus Batman, and Spider-Man versus Daredevil. Then Linn gets a little creative, as with Wolverine versus Marv, of Sin City fame:

“Keep these two away from china shops. Its gonna be a messy one,” Linn writes. “The shorter and swifter of the two, Wolverine goes all Ginsu on Marvs torso. The bruiser hefts his clawed combatant a few dozen feet away and pops off a couple rounds with his handgun Gladys.”

It’s like reading a random issue of Wizard, really.

Still, I do have a favorite among the tales of the tape: Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean versus Captain Hook of Peter Pan.

I don’t think Linn gives Hook his due, though.
