First Second has posted covers and previews from their fall catalog, which features graphic novels by Gene Yang, Joann Sfar, Leland Myrick, George O’Connor and Lat. Here’s the lowdown on each project:

1. American Born Chinese by Gene Yang — This is the one I’m most looking forward to, after reading the preview pages First Second has up on their site. It collects three seemingly unrelated tales that somehow tie together in the end. You can find out more about Yang on his Humble Comics website.
2. Journey into Mohawk Country by George O’Connor — In this historical graphic novel, O’Connor adapts the journals of Harmen Meyndertsz Van Den Bogaert, who “traveled deep into what is now New York State, trading tools and weapons for food, shelter, and furs, and seeking to establish new tribal friendships that would strengthen the faltering Dutch trade.”
3. Kampung Boy by Lat — Kampung Boy, a.k.a. Mat, is a Muslim boy growing up in Malaysia in the 1950s. Created by editorial cartoonist Lat, the book already has millions of fans around the world. The black-and-white sample pages look nice.
4. Missouri Boy by Leland Myrick — Myrick created the impressive Bright Elegy, which he published with the help of a Xeric grant. This time around, he’s created an autobiographical look at growing up in small-town America. You can check out some of his illustrations and more of his work on his home page.
5. Sardine in Outer Space 2 by Joann Sfar and Emmanuel Guibert — a follow-up to the first volume, which First Second published earlier this year.
6. Klezmer by Joann Sfar — This one’s about a band in pre-World War II Eastern Europe. Sfar has a fun artistic style, which should be an interesting contrast to what sounds like could be a bit darker than his Sardine work.
