In an interview with fan site The World’s Finest, Justice League Unlimited writer Stan Berkowitz lets slip a piece of news that should please a lot of DC fans:
“At the moment, I’m writing a direct-to-video animated adaptation of Darwyn Cooke’s ‘New Frontier’ epic. It will be feature length, rated PG-13 and Bruce [Timm] will be Executive Producer. So far, it’s been nothing but fun… a chance for me to revisit my youth and the Starro era.”
Between the Absolute New Frontier solicited for October – including deleted scenes! – and this news, I’m a very happy man indeed…
(Via Ryan Higgins at Millarworld.)
Update: The above quote has been removed from the interview; in fact, the entire last question and answer have been removed. Perhaps things were said that weren’t meant for public discussion?

I bet you’re thinking, “Now Coyle’s head is gonna explode.” But No! I trust Berkowitz and Co. to improve on the source material.

Oh, yes. You did.
June 21st, 2006 at 2:04 pm
Heh. To be fair, Ryan didn’t do it. I can vouch for this one.
June 21st, 2006 at 2:11 pm
Is that Ash Isotope Ash? If so, it’s a bizarrely small world.
And if Ryan didn’t do this, I’m sure he did other things. He’s a doer, that one.

You are correct, sir, on both counts. Good to see you on these Internets.

Hey guys,
Stu here – I conducted the interview at World’s Finest. We’ve since been asked to remove all mention of the DTV from the page, and we’re trying to get everyone else who posted to do the same.
Still, can’t wait to see this movie. Should be great!

[...] Blog @ Newsarama (formerly The Great Curve comics blog) carries intriguing news of an interview with Stan Berkowitz, writer on Justice League Unlimited, who mentions writing for a direct-to-video (or DVD these days) animation of Darwyn Cooke’s enormously popular and well received New Frontier (DC has an Absolute New Frontier due this autumn). However, they also report that both the questions and answers pertaining to that subject have now vanished from the original interview. Is it all being hushed up? Perhaps Dan Brown can work it in as a conspiracy subplot for a future novel… [...]

Moments ago, Paul Levitz confirmed it at the DC Universe panel in San Diego: Working with Warner Bros. Home Video and WB Animation, the company will launch a new line of direct-to-video DC animated movies that are being designed with DC Comics fans in mind, Levitz said. [...]
