Ninth Art turns out the lights

The comics commentary site Ninth Art is pulling the plug this week after more than five years of operation.

Today’s final edition pulls out all of the stops, with a farewell and final roundtable from editors Antony Johnston, Alasdair Watson and Andrew Wheeler, Paul O’Brien’s last “Article 10,” a rundown of the best comics, creators and publishers during the website’s lifetime, an interview with Harvey Pekar collaborator Ed Piskor, and more.

Ninth Art has been required reading for me every Monday — and, briefly, Friday — for the past few years, so I’ll definitely miss it. Its absence will likely be felt, too, on message boards and on a few blogs, where the Ninth Art crew was occasionally characterized as anti-Spandex snobs, despite the giddy embrace of superhero comics by some of the webzine’s contributors.     Thats terrible news. I’ll definatly miss them. The only other site like them that I can think of is sequart.com, but ninthart.com is so much smoother to visit.
