While comic-book message boards are abuzz about you-know-who doing you-know-what (beware of spoilers), the world of soccer — pretty much everyone outside of the United States — is a-titter over one footballer actually donning a mask.
A yellow Spider-Man mask.
After scoring a goal against Costa Rica, Ecuador’s Ivan Kaviedes pulled the mask from his shorts and put it over his head as a tribute to Otilino Tenorio, who died last year in a car crash. I don’t get the connection, but whatever.
It’s apparently caused some controversy, because FIFA rules prohibit players from removing their shirts in celebration or displaying political slogans. However, a spokesman said it’s okay, for now: “Let’s not get too petty about this. If it was a trend that was to catch on, well that might be different.”
You know it’s a slow news day when I’m writing about sports.

Wait- he had the mask tucked in his sweaty SHORTS?!
Maybe he should have used a DD mask, for he is truly a Man Without Fear…

Yeah, I tried not to dwell on that part too much.

Otilino Tenorio’s nickname was Spider-man.

The guy who died used to celebrate by doing the same thing, so that’s the tribute. Also he was a substitute so wasn’t on for that long and not THAT sweaty - although it’s quite humid in Germany for the cup. Also he said he won’t do it again so FIFA will probably let this one slide and not fine the guy.
