I’ve been a fan of the cover art for The Criterion Collection DVD releases for a while now. Whether they feature photography or illustration, the covers are almost always beautiful — even when they’re disturbing.
And the cover for the Criterion release of Pietro Germi’s Seduced and Abandoned is no exception. What’s notable, though, is that it’s illustrated by Mike Allred. (Compare that cover to this version. Beautiful, no?)
Germi’s 1964 film is a satire of machismo, manners and Sicilian social custom. The Criterion Collection edition is set for August release.
(Thanks, Rick, for the heads up.)
