Sidekicks were always great because it gave the kids who knew they’d never be the main hero a fighting chance to maybe one day become the heroic sidekick…

There, I blew through most of my Christmas money on random back issues of the previous Teen Titans series, learning about sidekicks like Speedy and Aqualad, as well as other young heroes, such as Hawk & Dove and Harlequin.”

A prime example of how continuity actualy propels ineterest, rather than the modern view of it as baggage.

I was always a bigger fan of Robin than of Batman growing up. Partly, like you mentioned, because he was closer to my own age then but also because he wasn’t anywhere near as stand offish or grumpy. I think alot of that has probably had an effect on my likes and dislikes to this day. Smiling, “laughs at danger” daredevil type I get; angsty, brooding loner not so much (unless it’s written really well).

Great article! Robin was always my favorite, and I had a fantasy as a child of my Dad, dressed as Batman, and me, as Robin, as we drove around in my papa’s Gran Torino– which somehow seemed like a Batmobile to me.

Of course this article is dear to my heart, as you can tell by the title of my new miniseries, “Buzzboy: Sidekicks Rule!”
